Internet Privacy Concerns

The google latitude may have privacy concerns because it allows for people to see where you are at times. This program could be used by people to follow and find others. Even though there are ways to choose who you want to see you and when you want them to it still can be a privacy concern. Another concern is that your picture is displayed with your location giving possible stalkers a picture to go by.

Some possible privacy concerns about facebook is that it gives anyone the ability to see pictures of yourself and info about you. This gives people to much freedom to see all about you. Even if there are some restrictions on who can see it, it still is to open to anyone on the internet.

Possible concerns with haveing your picture on social networking sites is that anyone can go to it and see what you look like. This gives people to much freedom to see you even if it is someone you dont want to see you. I think that employers should use the interent to search for possible new hires. this will give them larger variety of people to hire. I think that employers shouldnt use the internet to check on there current employees, things on the internet may be more private that the employer shouldnt need to check on.

The Binary Numbering System

In everyday life, we normally use a numbering system that is constructed on multiples of ten. We call this numbering system the Base-10 or decimal numbering system. Base-10 numbering systems dictate that the numbering scheme begins to repeat after the tenth digit (in our case, the number 9). When we count, we usually count “0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, …”

To convert binary numbers to base 10 first figure out the value of the numbers.

Three technology stories that i find interesting are “The end of TV: Boxee+Apple tv+ Hula”, ” MTV smacks youtube, posts almost every music video ever”, “Why windows 7 will smash Vista”.

The end of TV: Boxee+Apple tv+ Hula- This story I find interesting because i would love to be able to watch anything i want on the computer in good quality. I think that these things will be good to have over the internet.

MTV smacks youtube, posts almost every music video ever- I like this story because having access to all the music videos on one site is so much easier than trying to find them off youtube or somewhere else. This is relevant to me because i like to watch music videos and can not always see them on the TV.

Why windows 7 will smash Vista- I like this story because since the release of vista i have been quite disappointed and want another windows. Now with the rekease of windows 7 which is promising to be better than vista i cant wait. This is relevant to me because i really dislike the vista that is on my computer.

Netgear Powerline Network

The netgear powerline network is a device that is used to transfer internet through the electrical in a house instead of running a wire throughout. This device is used by those people who do not want a wire going through there house, or may not be aloud. It is also used by those who play video game systems and need the internet to connect to it. It may not be useful for those in a large business where it does not connect in certain parts of building.

The Netgear Powerline Network has many positive points for it. It provides a clean look in your house, without having wires running all over. It has just as strong of a connection as if it were connected by wire. The downfall to this is that if you happen to have bad wiring in your house this could affect it and will not work. Also those in very large buildings may not be able to connect because of the wiring.

1. A laptop computer, this will revolutionize technology because every 3 months there is a new better laptop that is available for purchase. This impresses me because we will keep advancing these computers making theme better and better.

2. Mp3 player, this will revolutionize technology because as they started out only had very little memory to hold songs, but now there are some very large memory Mp3s. This impresses me because you can carry like thousands of songs in your pocket.

3. Cell phones, these will revolutionize technology because the size of them are getting smaller and smaller and are getting new cooler add-ons like internet, video, GPS etc. This impresses me because they have advanced so much and I like the idea of having access to almost what ever you want in your phone.

4. GPS, this will revolutionize technology because there is no need to carry a map anymore, the GPS will navigate to where ever is needed. This impresses me because if you have a GPS you can almost never get lost.

5. Blue ray DVDs, these will revolutionize technology because old DVDs never could have the quality picture of the blue ray disk ones, the blue ray disk movies have super high quality video. This impresses me because you can watch movie theater quality movies in your own home.

Turing Machine- What is it? Explain the concept.

Turing machines are basic abstract symbol-manipulating devices which, despite their simplicity, can be adapted to simulate the logic of any computer algorithm.

Apple Computer – What was their first product? Who built it? How successful was it? Where did it start? Who were the next followers?

There first product was the apple 1, it was built by Steve Wozniak .It was quite successful despite the fact that it didn’t include things like display, power supply and case. It started in Palo Alto, California. The followers were Altair 8800, which was a personal computer bought in a kit.

What was Bill Gates’ first product? What made him money? How did he begin to make money. How did his company influence the computer business?

His first product was the basic, he began to make money from selling this. His company influenced his business because they created the products.

.ENIAC – Size – switches – data entry -what was it used for?

ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer, was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was the first high-speed Turing-complete, digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems, though earlier machines had been built with some of these properties Size -It included 17,468 vacuum tubes, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors, 1,500 relays, and 6,000 manual switches. In addition to numerous electronic components, the size of ENIAC was immense. It weighed 30 tons and covered 1,800 square feet.In one second, ENIAC could execute 5,000 additions, 357 multiplications, and 38 divisions—1,000 times faster than its predecessors.

Vacuum tubes size

First Generation – 1940-1956: Vacuum Tubes
The first computers used vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drums for memory, and were often enormous, taking up entire rooms. They were very expensive to operate and in addition to using a great deal of electricity, generated a lot of heat, which was often the cause of malfunctions. First generation computers relied on machine language to perform operations, and they could only solve one problem at a time. Input was based on punched cards and paper tape, and output was displayed on printouts.

Transistors

Transistors replaced vacuum tubes and ushered in the second generation of computers. The transistor was invented in 1947 but did not see widespread use in computers until the late 50s. The transistor was far superior to the vacuum tube, allowing computers to become smaller, faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient and more reliable than their first-generation predecessors. Though the transistor still generated a great deal of heat that subjected the computer to damage, it was a vast improvement over the vacuum tube. Second-generation computers still relied on punched cards for input and printouts for output.

Second-generation computers moved from cryptic binary machine language to symbolic, or assembly, languages, which allowed programmers to specify instructions in words. High-level programming languages were also being developed at this time, such as early versions of COBOL and FORTRAN. These were also the first computers that stored their instructions in their memory, which moved from a magnetic drum to magnetic core technology.

Third Generation – 1964-1971: Integrated Circuits
The development of the integrated circuit was the hallmark of the third generation of computers. Transistors were miniaturized and placed on silicon chips, called semiconductors, which drastically increased the speed and efficiency of computers.

Instead of punched cards and printouts, users interacted with third generation computers through keyboards and monitors and interfaced with an operating system, which allowed the device to run many different applications at one time with a central program that monitored the memory. Computers for the first time became accessible to a mass audience because they were smaller and cheaper than their predecessors.

At $99.95, it was the cheapest computer you could buy, and Timex sold over 600,000 of them. It sounded like a great idea, to get a computer for $99.95, but it was probably more trouble than it was worth

What are some of the things that you would like to accomplish this school year?

This school year i would like to make many accomplishments. Some of the things I would like to accomplish is to pass all my subjects. Since its the last year of high school I would just like to enjoy school. I will try hard so i can pass all my subjects and graduate from high school.

What types of technology are you interested in? Why?

The main type of technology I am interested in is anything that entertains me such as computers. I love to play games on the computer but that is not all I do, also I use this for homework, talking with friends and just to search what ever I want. Another piece of technology I am interested in is gaming systems I like how they have advanced over the years to have better graphics and game play. Also I am interested TV,s, how there is larger and better TV’s and you can watch whatever you want.

What piece of technology could you not live without? Why?

I probably could not live without the computer. I use my computer daily for games and interaction with friends. Without my computer I would not no what to do.

What would you like to learn about this year in this course?

In this course I would like to learn about all the components of the computer. I want to learn more about the programs and the parts of the computer and how to use them.
